British P2/Q2-Type Modified Aircrew Oxygen Mask for TSR2

This mask is an unusual type of P2/Q2 mask. Developed specifically for the BAC TSR2 aircraft, it has a chin cup moulded into the rubber facepiece to help protect against wind blast experienced through high speed ejection. The chin cup also has a hook moulded onto it to attach round the helmet chin strap.

I have heard rumours that this mask may have been designated the S-Type, but I have found no evidence yet to substantiate this claim.

BAC T.S.R.2 Crew's Notes, Part 1, Chapter 14, Paragraph 5 (AL 12, 1964)

Quote:

Modified versions of the partial pressure or integral Mk.2 helmet are worn, the latter with a modified P2A or Q2A mask.

A chin cup is added to the mask, to give increased blast protection: the cup is held in position on the chin by the helmet strap which is passed under the cup, forward of a projection on the underside, before the strap is tightened.
