Re: CockpitFest 2021

Scott, that really is an impressive collection of RAF Masks and Helmets spanning the different eras! It really is difficult now to pick up any clean examples of Flight Gear just lately, good job you collected it over many years and restored some items back to A1 condition? Well done. 8-) 8-)

Re: AEROBOOTS REVISITED: Shoreham 1, 23.03.04

We used to really look forward to going to Shoreham, I liked the September event best. Obtained some of my more hard to get items there too, like my sleeved MK 1 Pressure Jerkin and French ARZ Type 33 LSJ. It was an ideal venue that attracted many quality sellers. I shall never forget meeting Peter ...

Re: 1981 RAF MK 20 Life Jacket Wash

I washed it in the bath in the usual way, you can use liquid detergent on these LSJ's as they are quite rugged in construction, mainly nylon and terylyene, but this time needed a little more help on the oil stains. I used Swarfega hand cleaner. Apply it rub it in gently and be sure to wash it out, r...

1981 RAF MK 20 Life Jacket Wash

A while back I found a very scruffy 1981 RAF MK 20 Life Jacket at an Aeroboot in a very dirty scruffy oil soaked state. I was taking a risk, it was ex wet drill issue so it had seen lots of action, but equipment from this era is getting hard to find. It had its bladder and draw wire etc so if all el...

Re: Don't try this at home.

Sorry to hear of your problems with the suit. If I have to clean anything I tend to use a non fragranced face soap and tepid water first, then air drying outside in a breeze. (does sound like the vinegar possibly started to break down the waterproof fabric?) Seems like its some sort of polymer spray...

Re: Forum quietness

I was a member of the old Yahoo group, and yes, it is much missed as we all communicated on a regular basis as it was email and easy to post and pitch questions & answers back to everyone, but I like this Forum, (thank you Scott!) and it is building into a good source of information (big thanks to T...

RFD LSJ Advert 1952

Here is an interesting old advert from a 1952 Flight magazine. Picturing the RFD AF 51 LSJ and SS Mk 3A Life raft.
