DESCRIPTION
This altimeter acts as a standby to the main altimeter in case of failure. The main altimeter relies on 400Hz AC power to work, so can be comprimised by elelctrical issues. The standby altimeter is purely mechanically / pneumatically operated so will survive a power issue.
SIMULATION
The only way to simulate this indicator without modification is to invent a pressure control system to simulate atmospheric pitot static air pressure at altitude. While this is not a walk in the park, and probably many years away, it will also serve to provide static pressure to the standby speed indicator too.
SIDE NOTE
These altimeters can be difficult to find as over they years they have been a popular choice for people flying gliders.
