As per the Mk4A, but the visor mechanism was engineered to retract further back than usual to allow for fitting of NVGs. This would not provide any wind-blast eye protection while NVGs are in use.
The NVGs are counterbalanced by a weight attached to the helmet rear using Velcro.
This image shows a Mk4A4 helmet in use, with long coiled comms extension cable. Velcro pad at the rear is clearly visible.
From Defence Imagery, this close-up shows a pair of NVGs installed on what appears to be a Mk4A4 helmet, with P/Q-Type oxygen mask attached by MQRs.
This single tiny photo of a page is all I have on the Mk4A4 helmet from AP108F-0213-123, found on Worthpoint. I'd really like to find the rest of this AP, if anyone out there has a copy (either scanned or paper), please let me know.
It does however illustrate the path of wiring through the hemlet left hand side when fitted with a powered NVG bracket. I assume there are two versions of NVG, one battery powered, the other powered via the bracket, hence the wiring option.
Also note the AP shows mask hooks fitted, illustrating the Mk4A4 can be used with oxygen masks.
