Yes, I did want to build a Dalek!
This all began as I'd not seen any of the post 2005 Doctor Who's until my sister-in-law loaned me the box set DVD's in 2014 - I had a LOT of catching up to do! I have fond childhood memories of "hiding behind the sofa", so I had a bit of a soft spot for it again when going through these DVD's.
As a kid, I'd always loved watching the menacing Daleks... Something about their effortless movement is quite captivating. With my father, we'd built some Sevans and Comet plastic Dalek kit models, but never attempted anything bigger.
So, inspired by the recent catch-up of Dr Who, I'd decided to have a go at creating a Dalek... but not full size, I decided to make it the right size for my 3 year old to operate! So 50% scale was decided upon.
Budget and Materials
The project has little to no budget, so most materials have been the spoils of skip-raiding, scrounging, and left-over offcuts from other DIY projects.
Realistic Timescale
Although it's fun, this project is a very slow moving one, as other things in life take priority, but I will be soon publishing images of the build so far. I'm sure if I gave it every weekend and evening, it'd be done in a month or two, but life never turns out that way.
