DESCRIPTION
The aircrew portion of the P.E.C. (personal equipment connector) connects personal services from the seat portion of the P.E.C. This connector automatically disconnects from the seat portion and remains with the aircrew post ejection upon separation from the seat.
The aircrew portion (historically known as the "man portion") is fitted with an anti-kink hose for oxygen, a mic/tel communications cable terminating with a Type 626 socket ("NATO socket") is clipped to the side of the oxygen hose. The aircrew portion PEC also carries two threaded bushes for connections to the air ventilated suit (AVS) and G-trousers. The Mk. 7A oxygen connector at the end of the oxygen hose also is fitted with a "dog clip" to attach it to the life preserver D ring, this prevents the hose from flailing upon ejection.
The Mk.1A PEC is fitted with an automatic closure valve on the oxygen hose, so after separation from the seat on parachute descent the hose end closes off. This means if the aircrew was to parachute unconscious into water with oxygen mask still in place, the hose will not fill with water and drown the aircrew. The Mk.1A hose was fitted with this valve, and used with an anti-suffocation valve in the mask to prevent this situation, which was possible with the Mk.1 PEC.
SIMULATION
For the simulator, these P.E.C.s are being used to bring headset mic/tel electrical connections from P.E.C. seat portions.
As one per seat are used, two are used by this simulator project.
