HYDRAULIC SYSTEM
DESCRIPTION
The Lightning was designed with three hydraulic systems. An acillary drive on the port side of each engine rotates the pumps, two pumps per engine.
Note: The hydraulic systems are separate to the fueldraulic system for operating the reheat nozzles.
Services System
The services hydraulic system is derives flow from both engines so will work with either engine running. The follwing systems are fed from the services hydraulic system:
- Undercarriage
- Wheelbrakes
- Airbrakes
- Flaps
- Feel system
- Canopy
- Nosewheel centering and anti-shimmy
- Autostabiliser actuators
- Guided weapons pack
No.1 Controls System
- Aileron PFCU (outboard)
- Tailplane PFCU (right)
- Rudder PFCU (forward position)
- Brake parachute doors
- Undercarriage emergency lowering
No.2 Controls System
- Aileron PFCU (inboard)
- Tailplane PFCU (left)
- Rudder PFCU (aft position)
SIMULATION
The original FGUK Lightning had no hydraulic system modelled, and as a result, control surfaces could be moved regardless of engines running or not. Also there was no data available to operate the services pressure indicator or the wheel brake accumulator pressure indicator, or light the warning captions on the SWP and AWP.
So I set about adding a model to the FGUK Lighting to provide this data to support these other systems.
